Get up close to the Scheldt river and walk along Antwerp’s quays for great views of the sunset. Along the quays, you’ll find plenty of backdrops for videos, plus wide paths for walkers and joggers alike.

We all know that Antwerp is a port city. When you think of a port city, you’re probably imagining ships bringing in tons of crates for trade. Busy ports that smell of fish and are used for car parking. Not areas for relaxing strolls at sunset. Antwerp is built differently. The quays are popular walking spots super close to the city. These streets by the river are open spaces great for when you want to jog, walk, or just enjoy the views of the city.

The sun over the river, plus cobblestone streets and bridge, makes for some good photos. Whether you’re a local looking for a scenic river view while walking or tourist after selfie spots, the quay is a good place to drop by.

  • Quays: the quays along the Zuid and in the Scheldtbocht (Scheldt bend) have been remade and are now the most picturesque quays in the city. In total, there’s about 7km of quays along the city
  • Where to Go: start off your walk at Euronav NV on De Gerlachekaai. It’ll take you about an hour to walk the 4.4km trail to the Port House. This building, shaped like a diamond, is a symbol of Antwerp. Look across the river for a peek into Antwerp’s green energy. These tall wind turbines help to keep the city running and make for a unique sight
