Don’t miss these weird and wonderful sculptures while you’re walking around Bruges. These abstract bronze sculptures show the Biblical Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

This group of four small sculptures is a good sight to see while strolling along Bruges city centre, especially for art lovers. Tucked away in the courtyard, each of the sculptures show a figure on horseback.

By the Belgian artist Rik Poot, the sculptures show off the infamous Biblical four horsemen of the apocalypse (Pestilence, War, Famine, and Death).

Which one is which? None of them are labelled, but look closely at each sculpture. You'll see the ribs on Famine and War is holding a sword.

  • The sculptures have hollow points so you can see in and out of them. A weird but interesting peek into art
  • Carriage Ride: it’s popular for tourists to take a carriage ride through Bruges. The Four horsemen of the apocalypse sculpture is one highlight you might miss if you’re not careful, so keep your eyes peeled!
  • After checking out the sculpture, head over to the nearby Church of Our Lady (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk)
