Chill in the park or get your tennis shoes on in this cozy neighbourhood park. Check out the beautiful 16th century castle too

Sorghvliedt park is right in the Hoboken district. This neighbourhood park is great when you want to unwind, chill, or play. The park is cozy with enough space for picnics and the kid’s playground is popular too. But it’s mostly known for its athletics track and sports areas. If you’re looking to work out outside, Sorghvliedt is where you should go.

The highlight of the park is Sorghvliedt castle. There’s been a castle in the park since the 16th century, but it hasn’t always looked the way it does now. It was redesigned in the 18th century by architect Jan Pieter van Baurscheit the Younger, who did a lot of amazing work in and around Antwerp. These days Sorghvliedt castle is a town hall and isn’t often open to the public, but the outside really is pretty so check it out while you’re walking by.

  • Get active at the park’s football field or tennis courts. There’s also the athletic track for runners
  • Here for the architecture? Sure, the castle is great but there’s also two coach houses at the entrance of the park that you should check out too
  • The kid’s playground is popular. There’s swings, sand, and slides. It gets even busier around summer because of the ice cream van that pops up at the park
  • Walkers and joggers will have a great time at this park, but if you want to make your track a bit longer then head over to Fort 8 afterwards to work up a sweat
