Where international fashion designers meet Limburg’s own, visit Hasselt’s fashion museum and be inspired by the history of fashion through its innovative and ever-changing displays.
Situated on a historic site in Hasselt, the Modemuseum features a vast collection of Western fashion. The first and only independent fashion museum in the Low Countries, its location in Hasselt is fitting: the city’s link to textiles and fashion dates back to the middle-ages when it was internationally recognised as a cloth city!
Modemuseum’s collection is made up of 18,000 items of clothing and accessories which tell the history of Western fashion from 1750 to the present day. Alongside Chanel, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Comme des Garçons, the museum features “contemporary designers with Limburg roots”, combining international appeal with local talent.
Instead of a permanent offering, the museum organises its collection annually into two 6-month long exhibitions. Revisiting the Modemusem will allow you to enjoy their own pieces, and those that they’ve loaned, in different contexts and through different perspectives.
