A small historic park with a pretty 16th century castle perfect for a relaxing stroll or as part of a longer hike

A Walk in the Park

Trees galore! Veltwijck park is more of a little forest than a park as there’s so many trees wherever you go. There’s also a good playground for kids to enjoy, but we recommend taking a walk on the wilder side of things and exploring the park as much as you can.

Fairy Tale Castle

Veltwijck is a pretty castle that was even a town hall in the 1930s. These days it’s a great sight to see and landmark. Sadly, you’re not actually allowed into the castle. It hasn’t been open in ages as it needs renovation. Still, it’s nice to see this fairy tale castle and walk around the park. It’s known for being surrounded by a moat, unlike the nearby castles. The castle is named after its first owner Aert Van Veltwijck.

  • Summer Fun: the park has a pop up bar Wijckbar that’s only in the summer. Enjoy a drink in the shade of the trees
  • Don’t miss the statue to the Roman goddess of flowers Flora in the park behind the castle
  • Veltwijck park is next door neighbours with the nature reserve Oude Landen. Nature lovers and hikers should see the castle while they’re in the area
