Bruges has been around for hundreds of years and it’s got a story to tell. See the city’s rise, decline, and rebirth at this museum in a 15th century palace

Travel back in time to 3 periods of Bruges’ history. In about an hour and a half, you’ll be transported to the city’s hayday, to the 17/18th century, all the way to the 19th century. View the 600 exhibits to learn all about how Bruges thrived as a trading city to its decline and eventual rebirth. Inside a beautiful 15th century palace, you’ll see tons of historical pieces from fancy tapestries to aesthetic furniture.

Have you ever wondered how the rich and famous used to live? Check out how courtiers spent their days at Gruuthusemuseum. It actually used to be the home of 15th century courtier Louis de Gruuthuse, where the museum got its name from. This guy caught the attention of the King and became a courtier after winning a bunch of fighting tournaments. Think of it like a super rare 15th century sports scholarship and you’re not far off. Get all the deets on Bruges’ history by checking out the museum.

  • Sights to See: the building itself is totally photo worthy. Inside you get to see tons of great historical art, sculpture, and so much more. Don’t miss the balcony - you see the nearby picturesque bridge and canal from here.
  • Temp Exhibits: the museum hosts plenty of regular temp exhibits on everything from current local art to renaissance history. Be sure to check out their website to see what’s on right now
