Can you find the WW2 bunkers? A hidden gem outside the city centre, this park is a calm place filled with history
The park has a pretty long history. It’s actually over 200 years old. Unlike most parks, though, maintenance was left to a minimum after WW2. That means you’re getting a dose of the wild just outside the city centre of Ghent. You can still find the WW2 bomb shelters in the ivy growth! Some are easier to find than others.
You’ll find one of the bunkers by following the footpath to the south or crossing the bridge across the ponds from the farm. This one is the easiest to find and explore. The old ice house is now used as a shelter for bats. It’s the hardest to find but if you keep your eyes peeled on the south path you should come across it.
Rock Out in the Park
Woodrock Festival takes place in the park every year at the end of August. Bands play on the stage while kids play on the bouncy castle, adults grab a beer, and everyone has a good time. Although it’s called “Woodrock” there’s more than rock. There’s bands from all over Europe, DJs, and acoustic singers
