Beaver spotting in Achouffe

Stealth your way across the fairy valley to spot the busy beavers of Achouffe. Spot the beavers building their dam and capture these adorable architects of the Ardennes on a 6km walk

Beavers aren’t just cute. They play a really important role in keeping the forests of the Ardennes of Belgium running smoothly and responsible for creating rich soil. Come and see their dams, which have changed the course of the rivers and the landscape of the forests. If you keep quiet, you might just see them building away. Their work is bringing life back to the forests of Belgium. Keep your eyes peeled for the beavers, their dams, and their footsteps!

This 6km walk (about 2 ½ hours) takes you through the Valley of the Fairy (Vallée des Fées) which is known for its beaver dams and great natural views. Start off your trek at Brasserie d'Achouffe, and follow along the blue and white signs for your 6km hike. You’ll follow along a side stream of the beautiful Ourthe river. The walk loops back around to the La Chouffe craft brewery, where you should stop for some Belgian beer after stretching your legs.
