Arboretum Kalmthout is well-known for its beautiful collection of plants from all over the world, plus Belgian native plant classics. You’ll see everything from little succulents to massive trees in the gardens. The flowerbeds and ponds are picturesque too.

The botanical gardens actually started as a tree plantation in the 1800s by Charles Van Geert, where he collected rare trees and plants to protect them. Some of the trees here are 150+ years old. You can easily spend 1-2 hours just strolling and enjoying the scenery here.

• Arboretum Kalmthout has thousands of plants. It actually looks great no matter the season. There’s even flowers here in winter.
• The botanical gardens are known for their cherry blossom trees in the spring and the butterflies in the summer.
• You can actually buy plants here in their shop. You’ll find plants here that aren’t easy to find anywhere else plus some great quality bonsais.
• It’s also known as a cute photo spot and is popular with wedding photographers for the amazing backdrops of the garden
• Walking here is a tranquil experience. Cycling here is more of a hassle here and also not allowed anyways as the pathways aren’t really made for that. There is a parking area for your bike in the car park
• If you’re looking for a longer walk or cycling trail then head over to the nearby Kalmthoutse Heide. The botanical gardens are good as a warm up walk
