Start off your winter walk in Antwerp’s Grote Markt. From there, explore the city’s Christmas lights and trees. Walk off those roast potatoes and enjoy the season!

It’s time to lace up your boots and take a step into Antwerp’s city centre if you haven’t already. You’ll want to start your walk in the Grote Markt and work outwards through the surrounding streets or the other way round. Along the way, you’ll see snowflakes on the City Hall (Stadhuis) of Antwerp and Het Steen, plus Christmas trees and lights.

Looking for free stuff to do over the Christmas holidays? Walking around Antwerp to see the Christmas lights is one thing you can count on to be COVID Proof. All you have to do is keep your distance. Get out and snap up some photos of Antwerp in winter. Whether you’ve been in the city for years or are spending Christmas here for the first time, take some time outside to get into the festive cheer. We know its a bit tougher this year but so worth it.

You’ll need about 30 mins for a slow, but steady walk around Antwerp to see the Christmas sights.

  • Walking Around the Christmas Tree: sing Happy Holidays at the Grote Markt. Pop along to the city centre to see a pretty winter image of snowflakes projected onto the City Hall and lights on the surrounding streets. Walk under a Christmas light canopy as you enjoy a relaxing stroll around the city and stop at the Cathedral for a great Xmas sight.
  • Christmas Bandstand: take a photo with your bubble or drop by the Christmassy bandstand in the Hendrik Conscienceplein. Christmas presents even hang from the bandstand roof.

  • There’s no map of the walk but Visit Antwerpen have videos showing the big highlights of the city this winter.
